Turkish tourism statistics in the fourth quarter of 2023

Türkiye’s tourism income increased by 6.8 percent

Tourism income in the fourth quarter of October, November and December 2023 increased by 6.8% to 12 billion 272 million 673 thousand dollars. 15.2% of tourism income is obtained from Turkish citizens living abroad.

Tourists organize their trip individually or with a package tour. While individual expenses constitute 9 billion 47 million 94 thousand dollars of the total tourism income, 3 billion 225 million 579 thousand dollars of tourism income are obtained from package tour expenses.

Tourism income in 2023 reached 54 billion 315 million 542 thousand dollars with an increase of 16.9% compared to the previous year. While individual expenses account for 41 billion 61 million 408 thousand dollars of total tourism income, 13 billion 254 million 134 thousand dollars of tourism income are obtained from package tour expenses.

The number of outbound visitors increased by 4.1%

In this quarter, the number of outgoing visitors reached 12 million 472 thousand 145 people with an increase of 4.1 percent compared to the same period last year. 13.6 percent of the visitors were Turkish citizens living abroad with 1 million 694 thousand 536 people.

This year, the number of outgoing visitors reached 57 million 77 thousand 440 people with an increase of 11.1 percent compared to the previous year. 13.5 percent of visitors were Turkish citizens living abroad with 7 million 730 thousand 473 people.

In this quarter, the average cost per night of outbound visitors from our country was 93 dollars. The average cost per night of Turkish citizens living abroad was 64 dollars.

This year, while the average nightly spending for all overnight visitors was $99, the average nightly spending of Turkish citizens living abroad was $72.

36% increase in tourism costs

Tourism expenses, which are the expenses of Turkish citizens living in Turkey and traveling abroad, have increased by 36% compared to the same quarter of the previous year and reached 1 billion 968 million 374 thousand dollars. While one billion and 664 million and 310 thousand dollars of the total costs were related to individual costs and 304 million and 64 thousand dollars of tourism costs were related to package tour costs.

This year, tourism expenses increased by 65.3% compared to last year and reached 7 billion 68 million 901 thousand dollars. While 5 billion 916 million 935 thousand dollars of total costs were related to individual costs, 1 billion 151 million 967 thousand dollars of tourism costs were related to tour package costs.
